What Makes Teakwood So Great?

The first teak plantation in Java Indonesia was established in 1810 by the Dutch. At that time, the Dutch were the major plantation owners in Java. The Dutch exported Teak to many countries such as China, Europe, and the United States. Teak plantations in Java Indonesia were mainly used for furniture, flooring, and other wood products.

In Indonesia, teak is the most commonly used wood, accounting for about 50% of the total forest products. Indonesia is the largest exporter of Teak. The leaves grow at a rate of up to 2 inches a year, and the trees live to about 100 years of age. The tree is harvested and then used to make furniture and other products. The tree is harvested on average at about 25 years of age, any less and the tree would not have the same density & finish. All of the teak Kayu® uses is selectively logged, we do not use wood harvested from protected forests.

It is a hard, dense wood that is perfect for furniture, flooring, and flooring materials.  It is also used in the construction of boats, truck bedding, bridges, siding, decking, docks, and more. Teak is a very resilient wood, and if harvested from the forest with care, it can be used for centuries.
